HOW DOES AIRBRUSH TANNING WORK?

The active ingredient in virtually all sunless tanning formulas is DHA (dihydroxyacetone), a carbohydrate (monosaccharide sugar) compound approved by the FDA for use in externally applied sunless tanning solutions. DHA is usually derived from a vegetable source like beets or sugar cane. When DHA is applied to the skin, it causes a harmless chemical reaction with the existing amino acids in the skin to produce a tan, much like the sun does, but without UVA and UVB damage. The tanning solution is manually airbrushed in a fine mist all over the body or desired areas. There are absolutely no tanning beds or spray tanning booths at Kona Tanning Company. The process will take about 20-30 minutes including drying time.

IS THIS SAFE FOR MY SKIN?

DHA sunless tanning has been recommended by The Skin Cancer Organization, American Academy of Dermatology, The American Cancer Society, The American Medical Society, and has been approved for cosmetic use by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It has been used for over 30 years without any harmful effect.

HOW LONG WILL MY TAN LAST?

Depending on your activities and skin type, the tan should last 5-10 days. With follow-up applications, you can maintain your tan indefinitely. USE LOTION/MOISTURIZER ON YOUR SKIN DAILY TO EXTEND THE LIFE OF YOUR TAN AS WELL AS HELP YOUR TAN FADE EVENLY. Tight clothing may cause the tan to naturally exfoliate if any material rubs against the skin, so keep this in mind when dressing after application.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR FOR MY TANNING SESSION?

Swimwear is the most popular choice, although our female clients may opt for no tan lines. Males must wear a swimsuit or boxers.

WILL I STINK?

The water-soluble tint in our solution has a faint odor to it, so slight that it is not necessary to shower before going out. Most do not notice any odor at all. After showering for the first time, the tint wahes away to reveal an odorless, flawless tan!

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO SET UP YOUR MOBILE TANNING SYSTEM?

Upon arriving at your location, your tanning artist will be ready to begin the session in approximately five minutes. All we need is an electrical outlet!

HOW MUCH DOES A TANNING SESSION COST?

An individual tanning session costs $65 in our studio, and we have packages that lower each tan's price to as little as $45 each! Please call for mobile tanning estimates and day / week rates. Brides enjoy complimentary tanning for the big day when two or more of their bridesmaids tan, too! Please call for details.
